Reflections from the Forming Impact Summer House Part 1; an afternoon with Rosen Plevneliev

ree

This summer, our Greek summer house became more than a place for relaxation. It became a space where stories of leadership, resilience, and human experience intertwined, guided by a very special guest: Rosen Plevneliev.

We were deeply honoured to spend time with Rosen, who generously shared reflections from across the many terrains of his life; from building businesses and navigating change, to family, friendships, and the moments that have shaped his trajectory. Having served as President of Bulgaria, Rosen spoke not just of responsibility and achievement, but of the human experiences that underpin leadership: the setbacks that become set-ups, the courage to remain curious, the innovation that emerges from challenge, and the relationships that anchor us.

What made the afternoon truly memorable was its openness. Following a long post-lunch conversation in the home where Rosen had spent years welcoming his family and friends, we were drawn into stories that were candid, heartfelt, and full of insight. Rosen didn’t simply recount milestones; he invited us into the mindset behind them, encouraging each of us to reflect on our own paths with clarity and intention.

The spirit of the summer house

Our gathering was designed as a pause from the pace of everyday life. Surrounded by the Aegean, with long conversations over dinner and time to simply be, the atmosphere was one of ease and connection.

Rosen’s presence amplified this spirit. He moved effortlessly between personal stories, reflections on leadership, and practical wisdom for navigating change. In this intimate setting, the conversation felt natural and unhurried, rooted in trust and curiosity. It was a reminder of why creating intentional spaces matters, as places where authentic dialogue can flourish.

Lessons in leadership and renewal

Several themes from Rosen’s reflections resonated deeply:

  • Resilience and transformation – Rosen spoke candidly about moments of starting over, showing how challenges can become opportunities for growth and reimagining what comes next.

  • The interplay of personal and professional life – His stories highlighted how family, friendships, and personal values inform decision-making, and how these relationships often provide strength during periods of change.

  • Courage and curiosity – Perhaps most striking was his insistence that curiosity and openness are essential for navigating uncertainty. Remaining receptive to new perspectives and experiences keeps leaders adaptive and grounded.

More than a conversation

Rosen’s visit was more than a conversation; it was an experience of shared reflection. We left with practical wisdom on leadership, renewed appreciation for the importance of personal relationships, and the reminder that thoughtful presence and open dialogue can be transformative.

The afternoon in Greece stands out as a highlight, not only for the insights Rosen shared, but for the way his presence encouraged all of us to pause, to listen, and to consider our own paths with fresh perspective. It was a moment of connection, learning, and inspiration, perfectly aligned with the spirit of the summer house.
